Dal is the founder and CEO of TWEEZERMAN Corporation in Glen Cove,
New York. He founded the company in 1980 with $500 and has built it into a
model for the kind of company possible in our global economy. His company
has "heart and soul." He pays a living wage. His employees all participate
in ownership though outright stock ownership or participation in an Employee
Stock Ownership Plan. His company is active in supporting many community
projects. He founded the company in 1980 with $500 and has built it into a
multimillion dollar company employing over 150 people. It is currently the
premier developer and marketer of quality grooming tools in the U.S.
Dal is on the Advisory Board of Directors of SVN (The Social Venture
Network) a group of leading business and social entrepreneurs who are using
their business enterprises to promote social and economic justice and
sustainability. He co-chairs the New Corporate Vision Project - a group of
ten SVN member companies that are testing "standards of social
responsibility" established by the organization. Recently Dal was part of
a "White Knight" group of investors who attempted to take Ben & Jerry's Ice
Cream private in order to save the company from an unfriendly takeover
attempt.
Dal LaMagna ran for U.S. Congress in the 3rd Congressional District,
New York as the Democratic and Independent candidate in 1996. During this
race the League of Conservation Voters, Clean Water Action, the National
Educational Association, and Cerpac endorsed his candidacy. He captured
42% of the vote a surprisingly good showing in a predominately Republican
district. In 1997 Dal ran for the office of Town Supervisor of Oyster Bay.
Dal is currently running for U.S. Congress again in the same Congressional
District. He wants to reclaim our democracy from big money and help his
constituents survive big business.
