I
have a question... Why do advertisers put naked or near naked women in ads that are selling products geared towards other women? It may be every mans
fantasy to think of two naked women together, or maybe they
think women lay around in their underwear all the time...I have no
idea....but, I know of no adult woman that ha These ads do not motivate
me to buy..... they do not make me think I The only thing I can think of (and I am sure I am right) is that men run the ad agencies that make up the ads.... or men own the companies that are running the ads.... or men are involved in the decision making process somewhere along the way. Now as I read the statement above it sounds like I don't like men....that is not true. Men are great... but.... lets be fair...what is good for one sex should be good for another...I do not see naked men selling shaving cream to other men in their magazines. In fact I see MORE naked women selling stuff to men in the magazines.... what's up with that? All I want is fairness and equality.
I don't get it... I think it continues because marketing people (probably men) kid themselves into believing that it was the ad that caused us (consumers) to buy the product.... but the simple truth is....maybe it was the product that made me buy the product.... and the ad is just getting the credit. NOW.....If the
marketing people want to use imagery that would prompt me
to stop and look at an ad...they need to put a drop dead gorgeous
man in the ad.... Show me a good looking man rubbing lotion into a woman's leg or hand and I will at least stop.... and look..... at the ad.... (ok...I am looking at the man first.... and what he is doing second....but you get the idea...) I may even be motivated to buy the product....but on the merits of the product not the beautiful man. The beautiful man in the ad got me to stop, look and read, he was a bonus....and since that is what ads are designed to do....you scored.... My friends and I now look at the magazines and laugh at the naked women hocking their wares and wonder when is someone going to get it ? I also make a conscious mental note of what companies are still doing this, and I am not alone. I get the idea that sex sells and I am not a prude by any measure....but you are using the wrong sex to sell to a largely "female" heterosexual market... name withheld |
