Q. - After my gel nail service I get an itchiness around my cuticles. What is causing this? :A. - If this symptom occurs with light cured products it is caused by the chemicals (photo initiators) in UV cured acrylics and gels that cause it to react and harden when exposed to the light source. To eliminate this... make sure your nail technician is careful about touching your skin with the product. Some contact is inevitable...but it is the prolonged exposure that is the problem.... so as long as you scrub your hands and finger thoroughly as described you should be OK... Once the nail tech has wiped the stickiness from the nail... make sure you wipe your fingertips down with alcohol or polish remover to remove any traces of the residue...Use a new pad or wipe for this. Next wash the hands as described below and then oil the cuticles to replace moisture removed by the acetone. DO NOT APPLY the oil prior to washing your hands..... Oils act like a waterproofing agent and could actually seal the chemicals onto your skin... better to be safe than sorry....wash before oil. Make sure before polish application that
you wash your hands again and focus on the finger tips with
warm soapy water and a scrub brush. While you are washing
your nail tech should be cleaning up her station and removing any dust particles that may be on
the work station. This will help you not become allergic. Once a client
(you) exhibits allergy symptoms you can not (rarely) go back.
